About Us

Hispanic Alliance for Life and Family ("HALF") is the result of the first Hispanic National Pro-Life Congress that took place in Dallas in September 2008. Pro-Life Hispanics saw the need to "to establish an alliance to defend human life from the moment of fertilization to natural death and educate American Hispanics on pro-life issues." This new effort to organize pro-life Latinos is also a response to the call within the Catholic Church for more lay people to take leadership roles and spearhead educational efforts. The Hispanic Alliance for Life and Family will also cover bioethics issues and actively work to stop the spread of euthanasia, embryonic stem cell research, and human cloning in addition to opposing abortion.

Dr. Martha Garza, a NFP-only pro-life obstetrician, Marcella Melendez, the former head of Hispanics for Life, and Aurora Tinajero of the Catholic Pro-Life Committee of North Texas, comprise the organization's board of directors. Other advisors include Magaly Llaguno of Vida Humana Internacional, Alicia Leyva of the Mexican Americans for Life group, Adolfo Castaneda of EWTN and Radio Paz, and Astrid Bennett Gutierrez of the Los Angeles Birth Center.

HALF was organized in 2009 as a non-profit corporation under the laws of the State of Texas. HALF has qualified as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. As such, HALF is eligible to receive donations that are tax deductible for federal income tax purposes. .
